Although perhaps best known for its sailing designs, Sparkman & Stephens has distinguished itself from its earliest days as a designer of motor yachts. Large Motoryachts
S&S has a long, storied history designing large motor yachts. The firm has the ability to apply its extensive expertise in tank testing to produce safe, seaworthy and comfortable yachts of any size. Some of the firm's best-known large-yacht designs include the 161-foot tri-deck motor yacht ANSON BELL, built by Palmer Johnson, the 112-foot high-speed cruiser MITseaAH and the 195-foot Palmer Johnson-built LA BARONESSA, the largest all-aluminum yacht built in the U.S. since World War II.

Long Range & Expedition Vessels
As more and more yachtsmen venture farther and farther afield, S&S had led the pack in designing safe, reliable yachts capable of operating over long distances, in extreme latitudes, in ice and in challenging sea conditions. The company has a number of expedition vessels delivered, in build and on the boards. Some recent S&S designs include the 60-foot Queenship Passagemaker, her big sister, the 87-foot Passagemaker from Queenship and a 151-foot custom displacement expedition vessel.

S&S regularly demonstrates its versatility and ability to meet the needs of individuals with its smaller cruising yachts. Whether it's a high-speed planing boat for long haul commuting, a comfortable cruiser for weekends, or safe, reliable transportation from the club to your summer home, S&S can bring its extensive expertise to bear on your project. Among its coastal cruising designs are a traditional 82-foot cockpit motor yacht and the spectacular 65-foot, 35-knot Downeast-style PREDACIOUS.

With many baby boomers needing to balance busy careers, child rearing and indulging their recreational passions, a fast, open boat can provide a quick escape to the solitude of a favorite island or anchorage. S&S designs of this type can be found on all coasts. Among the firm's recent designs is the custom 45-foot fast cruising power boat PEACE and PLENTY, built by New England Boatworks.
